Holistic help for victims of sexual exploitation

Kavod

Dignity

The KAVOD association wants to meet people in prostitution in a holistic and appreciative way. The person is in the foreground, not the job they are doing. The goal is to restore the dignity of the person, which has been destroyed for many by the practice of prostitution. This is done through respectful interaction at eye level. In addition, KAVOD wants to give hope for an exit to a life with real prospects.

The foundation of our work is the Christian faith. Jesus is a friend of people who are stigmatized and marginalized. Especially his interaction with women is exemplary and inspiring for us.

KAVOD comes from the Hebrew.
It means dignity.

All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are gifted with reason and conscience and should meet one another in a spirit of solidarity. (Article 1, Universal Declaration of Human Rights)

In prostitution, this spirit of solidarity is untraceable. First and foremost, the treatment of persons engaged in prostitution is often characterized by contempt, stigmatization and discrimination, both by society in general and by the clients who use their services.

The legal situation does not exactly promote this solidarity either. For example, a person working in prostitution is classified as a “new self-employed person” under labor law in Austria, much as if the person himself or herself were in control of every aspect of his or her working life. This is completely at odds with what she experiences on a daily basis in a variety of ways. On the other hand, a person forced into prostitution by a pimp must live with the knowledge that their work is considered perfectly legal. And anyway, how could solidarity be found in an environment that is not only exploitative in its basic features, but also too often criminal? Where pimps demand protection money from women who do not work directly for them, and where there are repeated assaults by violent customers?

our range
Service areas:

Outreach Social Work:

Through weekly visits to the street, brothels, studios and nightclubs, relationship work is done and trust is built. The mostly female victims receive drinks, sweets and condoms from us. You will also receive the number of the red phone, which is available 24/7.

The Red Telephone:

The red telephone is available 24/7 and offers an immediate contact option for help to get out of prostitution. If a person wants to get out, or needs to leave immediately, they call, are picked up and taken to a safe location. For security reasons, she has to hand over her cell phone SIM card. Within a few days, a shelter in Europe, for example in their home country, is found and suitable transportation is organized. The person is informed in advance about all the offers of this shelter.

Care, support:

People who have left prostitution often no longer have an intact social network. KAVOD offers relationship and friendship and provides support when needed. The individualized support takes various forms, from joint activities and practical help to support in bureaucratic and residence law matters.
